Are amphetamines addictive?

Answered By Xander Adamson, Editor

Yes, amphetamines commonly referred to as speed, crystal or meth, are highly addictive. Known as stimulants, amphetamines can be snorted, swallowed, injected or inhaled. Not only are amphetamines addictive, they are also very dangerous and are responsible for a good number of drug deaths. When injected, these kinds of drugs can lead to collapsed veins and serious heart problems. Because amphetamines are addictive, they create a tolerance and psychological dependence.
